Haunting at the Gloucester Folk Museum, Folk of Gloucester
The Gloucester Folk Museum, now called the “Folk of Gloucester” is located at 99-103 Westgate Street, Gloucester GL1 2PG and is a Grade 2 listed building with parts dating back from the Tudor period (early- to mid-16th century).
This is a great place to visit for all ages with lots of local history and information and there is many regular events being put on too.
When I visit a location on request from a client, I prefer not to know any history as it just puts pre-loaded thoughts in your head, instead of using my abilities as a Medium. As with a lot of my local visits I already know the history and tails of ghosts etc, so I just pop along to see what I can feel and sense.
Haunted
Known locally as being haunted, the The Folk of Gloucester has been the subject to many fun ghost walks and local ghost hunters and is meant to be a very active spiritual place, including entities associated with its former occupants. Its a 500 year old building with reports of spirits from its past as a Tudor merchant’s house and a Victorian funeral directors and a small busy industrial factory used to make needles and pins.
My visit and a walk about
My visit to the Folk of Gloucester was in late April 2026 and when I first walked in I was quite surprised by how calm the place felt, I could also feel the many layers of history, which of course is no surprise.
While wondering around the ground floor I felt like I was being watched, which for me was a sign of something intelligent in among the residual spirits from past centuries. The bottom of the staircase was quite intense and I felt ill and a bit dizzy, normally for me associated with a dark entity trying to affect me and making me unwelcome.
Upstairs there is lots of creaking old uneven wooden floors and open spaces as the rooms have been knocked though many years ago to make room as a workspace. There are still a few rooms in the building over the 3 floors, all of which carry there own atmosphere and energy and I was getting a lot of static as I walked between rooms.
There are lots of items of history and things of local interest in the building on display, I always make a point of not touching things.
Overall, its a busy spiritual place and has a long layered history.
I am planning to return shortly to do a walk through again and will be reaching out to who’s there and will add my findings here.
